1.1 Length of Road:

Bangalore - Mysore road is an important State Highway in the state connecting State Capital with cultural city of Mysore. Large volume of tourist traffic is plying on this road.

The length of road from Bangalore to Mysore is 140 Kms. The Project road starts from the junction of university road of Bangalore at 11.3 Km of Bangalore Mysore road and ends near Hardinge Circle in Mysore. KUIDFC has undertaken improvement of 9 Kms of road in Ramanagaram & Channapatna. The length of the project road which requires improvement will be 120 Kms.

1.2 Sections:
1. Bangalore-Maddur Section 51 Kms.   Bangalore Division.
2. Maddur-Srirangapatna Section 60 Kms.   Mandya Division.
3. Srirangapatna-Mysore Section 9 Kms.   Mysore Division.

1.3 Traffic:

The Traffic intensity on the project road varies from 23,692 P.C.U. to 57,015 P.C.U. This limiting capacity for two lane carriageway is 10,000 P.C.U. The capacity of the road is already exceeded. However, to minimize congestion and to ensure smooth flow of traffic two lane carriageway with bitiminous strengthening and paved shoulder is proposed as immediate relief measure.

1.4 Accidents: To Top

Due to heavy traffic and deficiencies in geometrics, number of accidents have occured resulting in loss of life and damage to vehicles. Between the years. 1997 and upto September 1999. 1066 accidents have taken place resulting in 264 deaths and 1220 injuries.

1.5 Geometric Improvements: To Top

The locations where the curves are sharp and is falling short of standards have been identified. It is proposed to flatten the curves and provide inner widening wherever necessary. Kinks and S-curves will be straightened.

1.6 Roads in Low Lying Areas: To Top

In some stretches the water table is high and pavement is distressed. It is proposed to raise the embankment to prevent capillary action and provide adequate sub-base with gravel and proper drainage arrangement.

1.7 Minor Bridges & Culverts: To Top

The weak culverts and minor bridges will be strengthened / reconstructed to formation width to enable smooth flow of traffic.

1.8 Pavement Width and Thickness: To Top

The pavement is already 7 mtrs wide throughout the project road. The general composition of pavement proposed is 50 mm to 125 mm bitiminous macadam for strengthening and 20 mm mixseal surface for wearing course.

Expected traffic is of the order of 5 Million Standard Axles and the pavement thickness required as per IRC-37 will be about 550 mm. Hence it is necessary to carry out bitiminous strengthening of the entire project road. The existing pavement will be brought to camber and profile by providing lean bitiminous course of appropriate thickness.

1.9 Junctions: To Top

Properly designed junctions to facilitate smooth flow of traffic is proposed at the following intersections.
1. Junction of Maddur Town road and Mysore Bangalore road.
2. Junction of Mysore Bangalore road and Srirangapatna Yelwal Road.

1.10 Road Side Drainage: To Top

Properly finished shoulders. Shoulder drains and longitudinal drains along the road is proposed.

1.11 Road Appurtenance: To Top

Traffic safety devices, road markings, sign boards, shifting of utilities, removal of trees, site accommodations and Arboriculture is proposed to be taken up.

1.12 Construction equipment: To Top

In order to ensure durable road structure and to maintain strict quality it is proposed to deploy modern construction equipment of adequate capacity is proposed.

1.13 Present Status: To Top

It is proposed to take up 4 laning of the road from Bangalore to Ramanagar,Land acquisition has commenced.

The Salient features of Bangalore-Mysore Road are as follows
