ROADS AT MANDYA

Mandya town, located on the Bangalore-Mysore Highway from Km 97 to Km 101, suffers from ribbon development. At present the through traffic is passing along this corridor within the heart of the town. There are about four major intersections along this corridor with other internal roads of the town. All along this four kilometer length, there are a number of commercial and educational establishments, govt. offices, hospitals, recreation facilities. Tariff from railway station and bus stands also goes on the road. Thus there are a number of conflicts between pedestrians, slow moving vehicles, fast moving vehicles of local traffic and through traffic.

The present carriage way within the town consists of a four lane divided carriageway with 1.2m wide median, shoulder/footpath of about 2m width on either side. At present the pavement is in a reasonably good condition.

It is proposed to improve the poor geometrics of the old MC road to ease the traffic on SH 17. This road is to the north of the existing alignment. The road will also be widened and strengthened.
